Welcome.

Welcome to HeartSpace. Before you start your 2027 application, here's who we are, what we're building, and how applying works.

What is HeartSpace?

HeartSpace is a camp at AfrikaBurn built around radical belonging: a place where strangers become family and everyone has something real to share.

Where we've been

HeartSpace has been part of AfrikaBurn since the mid-2010s. After a hiatus, we were restarted in 2022 with new camp leads, and together we shaped the culture you'll find today: authenticity, playfulness and connection. When we ask campmates what made it special, the answer is almost always the people, along with the ceremonies, the build weekend, the fire circle, and solving problems together in the desert.

From 2022 to 2026, our main gift to the burn was the Workshop Tent, filled with sessions from external hosts.

Where we're going in 2027

In 2027 we're taking a big step: our gift becomes the Klubhouse, an ambitious new art structure.

The Klubhouse

The Klubhouse will be built, and brought to life, entirely by our own members. Where the Workshop Tent relied on outside hosts, the Klubhouse is made by us, for the burn.

  • Built by many hands. Members build it together, and bring decor and personal touches to make it feel like ours.
  • Alive through activations. The magic comes from you: a set, a ritual, a skill, a gift, an idea. It's playful and interactive, a place people wander into and don't want to leave. On the application you'll be invited to share what you might offer.
  • Safe and consensual. Consent and boundaries are part of the culture inside the Klubhouse, so everyone can play freely.

How applying works

  1. You apply. Fill in the form at your own pace. Progress saves as you go.
  2. under review. The Members Lead checks your application for completeness and fit.
  3. Interview. Two interviewers are assigned to you and arrange a relaxed call directly with you. It's a conversation, not an exam.
  4. Decision. The Camp Lead and Steering Panel decide together: accepted, waitlisted, or declined.
  5. Confirmed. If you're accepted, you become a member once you've paid your member fee and commitment deposits. Until then it's an offer, not a place.

Passing your interview or being accepted doesn't make you a member by itself. You're an official member once you're Confirmed.

The application form

Plan on about 30–45 minutes in total. You don't have to do it in one sitting: your answers save as you go, and you can come back any time to finish or change them. Not every field is required to submit; required ones are marked with a .

  1. Identity3–5 min

Who you are, how to reach you on WhatsApp, and whether you're new or returning.

  2. Burner Bio8–12 min

A few playful, personal answers. This is what your interviewers read first, so it's worth a little care.

  3. Crews3–5 min

Tell us which crews interest you and how willing you are to lead. You'll land in one home crew.

  4. Links2–4 min

Applying with friends? Who in camp do you know? Would you join the HS House in Cape Town?

  5. Commitments5–8 min

Your time on site, how you'll travel, and your member fee tier. Read this one properly.

  6. Logistics2–4 min

Tickets, when you can help in Cape Town, and when you'll arrive on site.

  7. Care & submit2–4 min

Anything that helps us look after you, then you submit.

Handy to have nearby: your ID or passport (your legal name must match it), your WhatsApp number, and a rough idea of your travel plans.
